Washington's Oldest Incorporated Town - 1854
Founded by Lafayette Balch, a Maine sea captain, Steilacoom began as a bustling frontier seaport on Puget Sound. It was the seat of Pierce County and a leading candidate for the site of the territorial capitol. This past has been preserved in the village of today.
Established as a National Historic District in 1974, Steilacoom has 32 buildings and sites listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.

- Nathaniel Orr Home & Pioneer Orchard
Built in 1854-1857, contains original furnishings and artifacts. OPEN Friday to Sunday, 1 - 4 p.m.
- The Wagon Shop
The original "wagon and blacksmith" shop located next to the Nathaniel Orr home.
- Bair Drug & Hardware Store - 1895
Includes early-day post office, hardware, patent medicines, 1906 soda fountain. Lunches, ice cream, breakfast on weekends. Open year round: 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. daily. 253 588-9668.
